The Manual Surface Grinder Manufacturer!

Wuxi Mingxu Machinery Equipment Co., Ltd. is one of the best manufacturers and suppliers of manual surface grinders in China. Our manual surface grinding machine is a precision surface machining equipment that uses high-speed rotation of the grinding wheel as the main motion and manual feeding of the workpiece as the core. It achieves micron-level surface machining through abrasive micro-cutting and is widely used in mold manufacturing, machinery repair and small-batch precision parts production.

What Is Manual Surface Grinder?

A manual surface grinder is a machine tool that uses a high-speed rotating grinding wheel to perform precision grinding on the surface of a workpiece. It primarily relies on the operator to manually control the longitudinal movement of the worktable, the transverse feed of the grinding wheel, and the depth of cut in the vertical direction. It is widely used in mold manufacturing, machining, and tool manufacturing to achieve high precision in flatness, parallelism, and surface finish.

How Does Manual Surface Grinder Work?

Manual surface grinders use a high-speed rotating grinding wheel (approximately 2800–3600 rpm) as the cutting tool, removing material through the micro-cutting and extrusion action of the abrasive grains; they utilize the "self-sharpening effect" of the grinding wheel to maintain stable cutting efficiency, and the workpiece is manually fed back and forth along the worktable, enabling the machining of planes, bevels, or grooves.

Main Structural Components

A manual surface grinder typically consists of the following core components:

1. Bed: The foundation of the machine tool, usually made of high-strength cast iron and aged to eliminate internal stress, ensuring the rigidity and stability of the machine.

2. Worktable: Usually a rectangular table with a precision-ground surface.

* A T-slot or electromagnetic chuck (permanent magnet or electromagnetic) is located under the table for securing ferromagnetic workpieces; for non-magnetic materials, a special clamp or vise is required.

* Longitudinal motion: The worktable reciprocates linearly along the bed guideways (longitudinal reciprocating). Manual grinders typically achieve this through a handwheel-driven rack and pinion or hydraulic transmission (manually controlled reversing).

3. Column: Fixed to the rear of the bed, supporting the grinding wheel head and vertical feed mechanism.

4. Wheelhead: Mounts the grinding wheel spindle and drive motor.

* Horizontal Layout: The spindle is horizontally positioned, and grinding is performed using the circumferential surface of the grinding wheel (most common type).

* Vertical Layout: The spindle is vertically positioned, and grinding is performed using the end face of the grinding wheel.

The grinding wheel head can move vertically up and down along the column guide rail (Z-axis). The feed depth is controlled by a precision lead screw and handwheel, with a dial accuracy typically reaching 0.01mm or 0.002mm. Some manual grinders also allow manual intermittent transverse feed (X-axis).

5. Transmission System:

* Spindle Drive: Generally driven directly by an independent electric motor or via belt drive, causing the grinding wheel to rotate at high speed.

* Table Drive: Purely manual grinders rely entirely on a hand crank; many "manual" grinders actually use hydraulic transmission to drive the reciprocating motion of the table (because hydraulic motion is smooth and has no crawling phenomenon), but the reversing direction, speed, and stroke are manually adjusted by the operator, thus they are also classified as semi-automatic or manual operation.

6. Cooling System: Includes coolant pump, water tank and nozzles, used to deliver coolant during grinding to reduce temperature, flush away grinding debris and lubricate the grinding wheel.

Mainstream Model Reference

MX-618

Worktable size approximately 150×450mm, high precision, compact structure, suitable for grinding small precision parts and cutting tools.

MX-450

Larger stroke, more versatile, can handle both roughing and finishing processes, suitable for batch production needs in multiple scenarios.

Core Advantages

- High Precision and Stability: Dimensional accuracy up to ±0.002mm, surface roughness Ra≤0.4μm, suitable for grinding precision parts and mold parting surfaces.

- High Flexibility and Low Cost: No complex programming required, intuitive and convenient operation, suitable for single-piece/small-batch production and complex contour machining scenarios; low equipment investment and maintenance costs, suitable for tool shops and machine repair departments.

- Easy to Operate and Highly Adaptable: Relying on technician experience and operating skills, it can perform machining of irregular structures such as inclined planes and steps; compatible with various grinding wheel materials and grits, meeting the machining needs of different workpiece materials.

Typical Application Scenarios

- Mold Manufacturing: Used for grinding hardened parts, punches/templates, and parting surfaces to ensure workpiece flatness and surface finish.

- Precision Parts: Covers gauge calibration, carbide tool grinding, and precision machining of standard parts.

- Mechanical Repair: Quickly repairs worn bearing seats, end faces, and other components, efficiently resolving on-site equipment problems.

Key Operation Points

1. Clamping and Calibration: Use an electromagnetic chuck to fix the workpiece; take care to prevent deformation of thin parts. Before machining, calibrate the worktable to be level. Follow a "trial grinding - measurement - adjustment" cycle for tool setting.

2. Parameters and Grinding Wheel Selection: Select an appropriate grinding wheel according to the workpiece material (e.g., use a silicon carbide grinding wheel for cast iron machining). Control the feed rate to 0.005–0.01 mm/stroke to avoid workpiece burning. Regularly dress the grinding wheel with a diamond dressing tool.

3. Cooling and Protection: Coolant should be directed towards the grinding area to cool and remove dust. Operators should wear appropriate protective equipment to ensure operational safety.
